Stephen Avenue Mural. Calgary Alberta

This 100 x 40ft mural is painted on the Historic Hudson’s Bay building on Stephen ave. and 1st St SW in Calgary AB. The composition is centered around the avenue’s namesake Baron George Stephen who is surrounded by symbols celebrating the buildings history and his importance to Canadians today.

The purpose of the imagery is to uplift the community and instill pride in Calgary’s history.
Stephen Avenue is the name of Calgarys most popular walkable street in the heart of downtown.

From Left to right the Mountain lion-RBC and beaver-Hudsons Bay Co. represent the two earliest and most prominent tenants in the building.
The round Crest presented by an open hand is a nod to Stephens appointment as a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order. Inside the wild rose graphic you’ll find symbols celebrating Stephens philanthropic nature.

The Mountain in the background is his namesake Mt. Stephen in Yoho National Park.
The train represents Baron Stephen’s integral role in founding, building and completing the CPR.
